New Year's Day Open House at Island Alpaca - Wednesday, January 1st from 10am to 4pm - This New Year's Day and weekend, bring the family and your out-of-town holiday guests for a unique experience. We invite you to Island Alpaca Company - home to more than 35 friendly, fluffy alpaca, including 3 new babies and two llamas! Primarily a breeding farm, we welcome visitors year-round to share with you, our furry friends! Enjoy some tasty treats and hot cider while watching our alpaca or take in their alpaca video presentation. Farm store will be open for some special yarns and handmade, made with the alpaca that you see outside! No admission charge, but donations are welcomed! Hope to see you at the farm!

Concert: Piano Music for Meditation - Sunday, January 5th at 2:30pm - In the mood for some musical relaxation? Sit back and relax at this live performance by pianist and musicologist David Rhoderick. Serene piano melodies create a tranquil atmosphere perfect for meditation and relaxation.

Silent Book Club of Martha's Vineyard - Wednesday, January 8th from 5:30pm to 6:30pm - Join us for the first ever meeting of Silent Book Club of Martha's Vineyard — a cozy evening of reading at Bunch of Grapes Bookstore. Bring your favorite book (or purchase one at Bunch of Grapes), find a comfy spot (or bring a camp chair, yoga mat, or cushion), and immerse yourself in a world of words. No need to worry about discussing the book — this club is all about enjoying the pleasure of reading in silence with like-minded book lovers. Whether you're a speed reader or a slow savorer, everyone is welcome to join in the peaceful atmosphere. So bring a friend or come solo, and let's spend some quality time with our books together! We will officially start at 5:30 p.m., but you can come at 5 and enjoy a special SBC discount if you want to buy something to read at book club or for later! And for those who want to stay and socialize after SBC, we plan to walk over to a soon-to-be-announced establishment for food/drink.

Backyard Mushroom Growing - Saturday, January 11th from 10am to 11:30am at Morning Glory Farm. Learn to grow mushrooms on logs with Meg Athearn of Morning Glory Farm. This class will primarily focus on shiitake mushrooms, but will also address oyster and winecap mushroom cultivation. Each workshop participant will come away with their own shiitake log to harvest. Workshop fee includes one log; additional logs are $20 each. Ages 10 and up. Cost: $30 ($25 for Ag Society members).

Stocks and Soups 101 with Slough Farm - Saturday, January 11th from 10am to 12pm - Learn the basics of making stocks and broths from scratch to build better soups in this hands-on class at the Farm Institute! Charlie, culinary director at Slough Farm, will walk participants through the steps of making bone broth and chicken stock, and discuss the differences between broths and stocks. This class includes basics on chopping, prepping, and ways to enhance flavors in soups and stews.

Second Sunday Jazz Concert - Sunday, January 12th at 2:30pm - Featuring The Jeremy Berlin Trio with special guest Bill Vint, tenor saxophone. Free and open to the public.

Local Food Community Potluck - Monday, January 13th from 5:30pm to 7pm - The first of three community dinners this winter: enjoy a warm meal and spend time with friends old and new at the Ag Hall! Please bring a dish highlighting local food to share, as well as your own dishware, utensils, and drinks.

MV Ballroom Local Off-Season Dancing and Music with Delanie and Johnny - Sunday, January 19th at 4pm - The MV Ballroom Dancers invites you to an evening of off-season music and dancing, with live music by local favorites Delanie and Johnny! Organized and sponsored by the MV Ballroom group and the Friends of the Vineyard Haven Library, in collaboration with Pathways Arts and the Unitarian Universalist Society of Martha's Vineyard. Winter ballroom dance events begin at 4 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Society’s Stevens Chapel at 238 Main Street, one block from the library. Come to dance, or just to listen!

Monday Night at the Movies - Mondays in January at 6pm - 6th Holiday, 13th Leave Her to Heaven, 20th Hud, 27th Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

Game Night at the Barn - Wednesdays in January from 7:30pm to 10pm - Come join us downstairs at the Barn Bowl & Bistro for a variety of board games and socializing. We meet weekly at 7:30 p.m. and newcomers are always welcome.

Stitch Society Craft Group - Thursdays in January starting January 9th from 6:00pm to 7:00pm - Join us Thursdays for the Stitch Society Craft Group with Laura & Rachel. Drop-in and work on your project or learn a new skill. Needle felting, embroidery, needlework, and more.

Winter Wonderland Pop Up Escape Room - Saturdays in January from 12pm to 2:30pm - Come play our new limited-time escape room, Winter Wonderland, on Saturdays only through March. (Martha's Vineyard residents can use checkout code THANKYOU50 on this room only for 50% off our normal price as a way for us to say thank you for your support. Regular price is $28 per person.
