The New Year on Martha’s Vineyard is shaping to be like no other. Snowy hikes, blissful beach walks, warmth by the fireside and more. - Friday, January 1st from 5:00pm to 10:00pm - Crossland’s Oak Bluffs Christmas Display. Ocean Park light show and Christmas displays throughout town. Tune radio to 88.5 FM.
- Saturday, January 2nd from 10:00am to 4:00pm - Museum Exhibit: Wish You Were Here. Postcard enthusiast Jessica B. Harris has turned her connoisseur’s eye to the Martha’s Vineyard Museum’s collection of thousands of postcards. Selecting examples from all six towns and printed from the beginning of the postcard era through the mid-20th century, Harris combines her knowledge of postcard history with her deep love of the Vineyard to create a personal view of the Island.
- Saturday, January 9th from 12:00pm to 1:30pm - Winter Beach Safari on Chappaquiddick! Explore the winter landscape of Chappaquiddick’s only wildlife refuge on this open-air, over-sand adventure. We will trek the barrier beach and keep our eyes peeled for winter wildlife, if we are lucky we may even spot a snowy owl! Please dress appropriately for the weather (think layers) and for walking on sand. Binoculars and cameras encouraged.
- Saturday, January 9th from 2:00pm to 3:30pm - Winter at the Light at Cape Poge Light on Chappy! Explore the only wildlife refuge on Chappaquiddick by open-air, over-sand vehicle as you trek to the remote Cape Poge Light. Learn of about the local and natural history of this special place, how man and nature have lived with and shaped the land and meet the winter wildlife! Don’t forget a camera for a climb up the Light’s wooden spiral staircase to unmatched views of the Muskeget Channel, Cape Cod, and Nantucket!
- Saturday, January 16th from 6:00pm to 7:00pm - A Sweet Book Club: Baking Joy. Did you know that stressed spelled backwards is desserts? Do you take comfort in the kneading, the stirring, the pouring, and sifting, but especially the aroma and taste of the tender crumb, the golden flake, the creamy dollop upon your tongue? Come explore the best baking books out there with us. Bring your creations, or images of them, or just your curiosity as we discuss the recipes, ingredients, and techniques, and most importantly, the taste of baking today.
