The holiday season has officially arrived on Martha’s Vineyard and we’re heralding in the month with a slew of festive activities. Join us for hygge-themed potlucks, Christmas parades and the annual lighting of the lighthouse. Here’s our roundup of 10 activities to get you in the holiday spirit this month:
- Stock up for Winter: Imagine curled up by the fire with the perfect book. Now, head to the Edgartown Public Library to grab that perfect book at the Big Book Giveaway. Throughout the month of December, the library will be stocking carts of new, nearly new, and good condition books for free.
- Honor Hygge: Embrace the colder temperatures at a Winter Solstice Hygge Potluck and sunset hike at Felix Neck Wildlife Sanctuary. Bring your own blanket and a dish to share and enjoy an evening of good food and warmth in nature on Sunday, December 2 starting at 3:45 p.m.
- Hear Holiday Tunes: Get in the holiday spirit by enjoying an evening of holiday music. We’ve picked out two events to check out – the Island Community Chorus Holiday Concert on Sunday, December 2 at 3:00 p.m. and the Minnesingers Concert as part of Christmas in Edgartown on Friday, December 8 at 8:00 p.m.
- See a Holiday Screening: Join holiday revelers at Edgartown Cinemas on Thursday, December 6 at 7:00 p.m. for the island premier of “A Godwink Christmas,” based on the true love story of Martha’s Vineyard’s Gery and Paula Conover, owners of the classic Charlotte Inn.
- Light up the Night: It wouldn’t be Christmas in Edgartown without the annual Lighting of the Lighthouse. Head to the Edgartown Lighthouse on Friday, December 7 at 6:00 p.m to countdown to the big reveal.
- Experience Mytoi: Travel to Chappaquiddick to see Mytoi as you’ve never seen it before. Stroll through the Japanese-inspired garden as dusk descends and the area is alight with twinkling lights and lanterns. - Prance at the Parade: Head to downtown Edgartown on Saturday, December 8 at 11:00 a.m. for the main event of Christmas in Edgartown – the Christmas in Edgartown Parade. Bundle up to see floats, dancers, animals and of course, Saint Nick himself.
