The winter months on Martha’s Vineyard are enchanting. December has so much to offer; holiday shopping, music, art, and more, there is always something to do on the island. Here are the highlights for enjoying this December on MV. 


First Friday - Friday, December 1 at 5:00pm to 8:00pm - Mark your calendars for the last First Friday of the year on Friday, December 1st at the Martha's Vineyard Museum! Join us for an evening filled with food, enchanting music, festive vendors, and more. A joyful, family-friendly celebration to kick off Tis The Season in Vineyard Haven! 

Aquinnah Artisans Holiday Fair - December 2nd and 3rd from 10:00am to 4:00pm - Celebrate the holiday spirit! Enjoy the Childre's Art Show and a craft table while shopping for artisan-made goods including pottery, ceramics, native crafts, dolls and ornaments, wampum jewelry cashmere and wool headwear, bottled Aquinnah clay, scallop shell lights, embroidered linens, small paintings and so much more. Food vendors will be Orange Peel Bakery and Jeff and Vika Duarte.  

Family Friendly Interactive Polar Express - Sunday, December 3 at 11:00am - Come kick off the holiday season with an interactive screening of The Polar Express! Viewers will receive prompts and props to interact with the film.  This program is generously supported by Friends of the Vineyard Haven Public Library and the Martha's Vineyard Film Society. This event is free, but please reserve your free tickets now to ensure you have admission! Doors open for admissions 30 minutes prior to screening. 

Island Community Chorus Holiday Concert - Sunday, December 3 at 3:00pm to 4:30pm - Get into the holiday spirit with "Sing We Joyous!" a concert by the Island Community Chorus, with director William Peek. The repertoire ranges from America to Europe and to Africa. It will include familiar Handel and Bach music, a Christmas spiritual song, a jazzy Hanukkah piece, and much more. A free public reception will follow the performance.

Adult Holiday Craft: Ornament Painting - Friday, December 8th from 1:00pm to 2:00pm at the Edgartown Public Library

Lighting of the Edgartown Lighthouse - Friday, December 8th from 5:30pm to 6:30pm

30th Annual Christmas in Edgartown Art & Crafts Festival - Saturday, December 9th from 10:00am to 4:00pm at the Edgartown Schoo

Minnesingers Annual Family Holiday Concert - Saturday, December 9th from 4:00pm to 5:30pm at the Old Whaling Church


Annual Chilmark Church Holiday Flea Market - Saturday, December 16 at 10:00am to 4:00pm - Local crafts and Island vendors, catered lunch food, fresh greens and centerpieces, baked goods and a "treasure" table. 

West Tisbury Winter Farmers' Market - Saturday, December 16 at 10:00am to 1:00pm - Enjoy the winter version of the West Tisbury Farmers' Market, held indoors at the Agricultural Hall.

Winter Walk at Polly Hill - Saturday, December 16 at 10:00am to 11:00am - In every season the Arboretum offers something of beauty and interest to visitors. At this time of year, plants display unique foliage color, textures, structure, cones, and berries. Join us as we explore the winter landscape. 

Winter Solstice Sunset Hike at Menemsha Hills - Thursday, December 21 from 3:00pm to 5:00pm - Join us for a wintery sunset hike on the shortest day of the year! We will mark the winter solstice, the shortest day of the year, by hiking down to the beach at Menemsha Hills and watching the sun set. We will read a few poems about the winter solstice to mark the moment, and discuss what we will bring with us into the coming long days.

Interactive Movie: Elf at the West Tisbury Library - Friday, December 22nd from 1:00pm-3:00pm - On Friday, December 22, at 1pm, come to the West Tisbury Library for an interactive screening of the movie Elf! Grab a bag of goodies and interact as a group along with the movie (with treats and props). Wear pjs if you want!
