  • MV African American Film Festival - August 2nd - 10th - The 22nd Annual Run&Shoot Filmworks Martha’s Vineyard African-American Film Festival an OSCAR® Qualifying Festival in the Short Film Category.
  • MV Museum Deco Dreams Summer Party - August 3rd from 6:00pm t 9:00pm - Step back into the 1920s with Deco Dreams, a night where art deco elegance meets the joy of the jazz age. Don your finest art deco attire, enjoy signature cocktails and light bites from our raw bar, dance to live music from The Vine Shakers, and capture the moment in our photo booth. Plus, get exclusive after-hours access to our exhibits. Join us for a celebration of 1920s glamour and make some memories that last.
  • Misty Meadows Summer Fundraiser - August 4th from 5:00pm to 7:30pm - Spend a beautiful evening at Misty Meadows enjoying a conversation with Geraldine Brooks and the filmmakers of the newly released film “Rescued Hearts” which explores the transformative impact of horses and their relationships with people.
  • 43rd Hospice Annual Summer Soirée - August 5th at 5:30pm at Farm Neck Golf Club.
  • Cottagers Sundown Soiree - August 7th from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at Featherstone Center for the Arts.
  • Built on Stilts Dance Festival - August 8th - 10th & 17th - 19th - The Built on Stilts Dance Festival is comprised of performances by members of the Vineyard community and beyond. Shows might also include live music, storytelling, theater, poetry readings, comedy, circus acts, fitness demos and more! All shows are appropriate for all ages and free to the public.
  • 12-Meter Race - August 9th -11th - Sponsored by the Edgartown Yacht Club.
  • Anonymous Art - August 11th from 5:30pm to 7:30pm at Featherstone Center for the Arts - Small Art. Big Fun. Anonymous Art is a fun and creative art show featuring 6"x6" works of art donated by local artists. All anonymously created artwork is for sale for $100 with both professional and novice artists participating. Attendees of the event have the opportunity to sign up for a one in six chance to win the pieces of their choosing, not knowing who created the artwork. A roll of a dice ultimately determines the winner of each piece. It’s an evening of small art and big fun! $25 admission to the event includes wine, beer and appetizers as well as your chance to win!
  • Chilmark Road Race - August 12th - Since 1978, the Chilmark Road Race has been run along beautiful but oh-so-hilly Middle Road. Proceeds from the race are donated to the Town Affairs Council to assist in the operations of the Chilmark Community Center and make scholarships to year round residents possible.
  • Grand Illumination - August 14th - The crown jewel of the Campground season is Grand Illumination Night! Thousands of Island residents and visitors enjoy Grand Illumination each summer. The evening starts in the Tabernacle, and seats fill well in advance. The program also includes a prayer, along with Community Sing and music by the Vineyard Haven Band, as well as the ceremonial lighting of the first lantern. The event is supported with a free will offering. We are grateful for the generosity of everyone who visits, participates, and donates what they can to make this magical evening possible.
  • MV Agricultural Fair - August 15th -18th - The 162nd Martha's Vineyard Agricultural Fair! The Fair is open from from 10 AM –11 PM on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday and 10 AM–6 PM on Sunday. The Barns close at 9 PM (5 PM Sunday), the Hall closes at 10 PM (5 PM Sunday), and the Fiber Tent closes at 6 PM (5 PM Sunday).
  • Oak Bluffs Fireworks - August 16th - Sponsored by the Town of Oak Bluffs with help from many generous donations. Begins after 9:00pm.
  • MV Hospital annual Sullivan 5K Run/Walk - August 24th at 9:30am - Many generations of racers gathered at Washington Park in Oak Bluffs on Saturday morning to prepare for the 31st annual Sullivan 5K Walk/Run and to celebrate Dr. Louis W. Sullivan, who announced that he would be stepping down from leading the race this year.
  • Vineyard Artisans Labor Day Festival - August 30th, 31st & Sept 1st - The largest art show on Martha’s Vineyard, featuring only Island Artists with unique furniture, clothing, ceramics, jewelry, and fine art from the Island’s top artists. Watch a weaver making a beautiful scarf from wool harvested from her own flock. Enjoy watching a young Island artist create his latest masterpiece. These and many more unique experiences, including local music, await you at this premiere show. A $2.00 parking fee is for the Vineyard Artisans Scholarship Fund, which awards several scholarships to graduating MV High School students for studies in the Arts each year.
