Our favorite things to do this July!


  • Murdick’s Run the Chop Challenge - Thursday, July 4 at 8:30am - 4 Mile Road Race and Kids' Fun Run! Murdick’s Run the Chop Challenge is a Vineyard tradition on the 4th of July! This race has been in existence for over 20 years, with Murdick's Fudge as the presenting sponsor of this event. The race has raised more than $120,000 for Island-based youth programs including the Martha's Vineyard Boys & Girls Club, The MV Youth Running Club and Rotary Club of Martha's Vineyard. Through the support of our volunteers, the community of Vineyard Haven, and of course our runners, this race continues to be a huge success and a great way to kick off the 4th! This year the race is a 4-mile loop (run Four on the Fourth!) around West Chop, beginning at Saint Augustine Church just off Franklin Street, about 3 blocks up from the boat dock in Vineyard Haven. Meant for the whole family, the race includes a fun run for the kids starting at 8:45 a.m., followed by the main event at 9 a.m.
  • Edgartown Fourth of July Parade - Thursday, July 4 at 5:00pm, Main Street, Edgartown - Quintessential parade through the center of Edgartown with bands, floats, classic cars and a sense of history! Start time is 5 p.m. at the Edgartown School and the parade will make its way down Main Street.
  • Fourth of July Fireworks - Thursday, July 4 at 9:00pm - Edgartown Harbor - Fireworks show starts at dusk at approximately 9 p.m. on the harbor. Early for a good viewing spot.
  • Farm Institute Pig Roast - Friday, July 5 from 3:00pm to 5:00pm -Join us for a family-friendly pig roast and BBQ! Swimming Pig will be on the farm with his custom smoker! We’ll have Katama-raised smoked pork and chicken, coleslaw, roasted veggies, mac and cheese, and cornbread. Bring a blanket or snag a spot at a picnic table. Grab a Bad Martha beer, enjoy live music and visit with our barnyard animals, fun for the whole family! Children’s tickets are for ages 12 and under. Beer and hard seltzer for purchase separately from Bad Martha. Live music TBA.
  • First Friday - Friday, July 5 at 4:00pm to 10:00pm - First Friday is an outdoor event in Vineyard Haven, Martha's Vineyard. Buskers on Main Street from 2-5 p.m., carriage rides picking up at Mad Martha's from 3-5 p.m., live music and activities in Owen Park starting at 5 p.m., and PathwaysArts's Silent Disco on the beach from 9-11 p.m.!  Details: www.firstfridayvh.com/  Check it out on the First Friday of each month June through December.
  • MVCMA Flea Market! - July 6th from 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM
  • Art Stroll - Saturday, July 6 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm - Oak Bluffs Arts District - Artists, vendors, musicians and more bring together multiple facets of the arts during the art stroll on July 6 from 4 to 7 p.m.
  • Mom's Unhinged - Tuesday, July 9 from 7:00pm to 9:00pm at The Strand Theatre - "Moms Unhinged" is a stand-up comedy show with a lineup of all mom comedians (and the occasional token dad). We explore everything from motherhood to midlife crisis, marriage, divorce, online dating, and other things that irritate us. Men are welcome to the show, too! We do clean (ish) comedy and this is a fun night out with your girlfriends, drinking club (I mean book club), neighborhood group or your own mom. Comedians in our repertoire are mostly Colorado-based currently, but as we expand our network nationwide, we are able to include the very best funny women in other cities.
  • Homemade Bagels with Vineyard Baker - Thursday, July 11 from 5:30-7:30PM - Join Teri Culetto, the Vineyard Baker, for this hands-on workshop to learn the art of bagel making. Each participant will take home half a dozen bagels.
  • The 33rd Annual Seafood Buffet & Auction - Thursday, July 11th from 5:30-10pm - Sail MV provides more than $160,000 of scholarships to our summer program for island families each year. The Seafood Buffet & Auction is our main annual fundraising event, a party to celebrate all that we do, and a chance to mingle, eat, drink, and be merry on the shore of Vineyard Haven Harbor.
  • Vineyard Cup Regatta - Friday, July 12 - Sunday, July 14 at the Martha's Vineyard Shipyard

     

  • Much ado about nothing at the Tisbury Amphitheater - Beginning July 18th at 6:00pm

  • Cheese Tasting and Board Building with MV Cheesery - Thursday, July 25th from 5:30-7PM - Join Morgen of MV Cheesery as she shares tips and tricks for creating your own cheese board at home! Each participant will have an opportunity to taste a variety of cheeses, enjoy learning a bit in a cheese 101, and create a take home 9 x 9 cheese grazing box of their own making complete with crackers and other accoutrements (serves 1-3).

  • Berry Festival - Saturday, July 13 from 12:00pm to 4:00pm at the First Congregational Church of West Tisbury - Join us for the Berry Festival at the First Congregational Church in the center of West Tisbury on July 13 from 12 to 4 p.m. Enjoy delicious berry shortcakes, smoothies, parfaits, and a pie sale (come early since they sell out fast). Relax on the lawn with berry treats and lemonade. And don’t forget to buy your raffle tickets for some very special items!

  • Catboat Parade of Sail - Saturday, July 20 at 12:00pm - Edgartown Harbor - The annual Catboat Parade of Sail throughout Edgartown harbor returns. All catboats are welcome. Catboats will assemble in the down harbor area, to be led in a Catboat Parade of Sail. A few catboats originally designed and built by Manuel Schwarz Roberts will be among the vessels participating in the parade. The public is welcome to view, with suggested viewing points at Memorial Wharf, at Chappy Beach, Lighthouse Beach and Fuller Street Beach.

  • Musical Mondays at Featherstone Center for the Arts - From 6:30pm to 8:00pm - Featherstone will be hosting musical performances this summer outside on our outdoor stage under the trees. Enjoy music on our lawn while supporting musical artists and our nonprofit art center. Tickets are $20 per person with 50% of proceeds from each performance going to the musicians. ?Tickets for each week's performance will go on sale to the public at 12 p.m. (noon) a week prior. Note: start times vary according to sunset!

  • Global Rhythms Summer Concert Series - Tuesdays in July from 5:30pm to 7:00pm at the Martha's Vineyard Museum - Celebrate the vibrant tapestry of global cultures present on our Island at the Museum's weekly music event! Every Tuesday, immerse yourself in rich melodies and rhythms from around the world. We invite you to bring a picnic, cozy up on your blanket or lawn chair, and connect with the diverse heritage that makes our community special. New featured performer each week!

  • Chilmark Flea Market - Wednesdays in July from 9:00am to 12:00pm - The oldest outdoor flea market venue on the Island! The "Flea" has evolved into a market like no other. High quality handmade items from Vineyard artists and craftsmen, antiques, imports and vintage finds, including jewelry, clothing, art, food items and more. No admission fee. Free parking.

  • Farmer's Market Storytime - Wednesdays in July from 1030: to 11:00 at the Agricultural Hall - Join Childre's Librarian Hannah, at the West Tisbury Farmers' Market for a storytime featuring fun picture books and silly songs. All ages welcome!

  • Community Sing at the Tabernacle - Wednesdays in July from 7:30pm to 8:30pm - A fun (and free) sing-a-long for everyone!

  • Live Music: Freestyle Fridays with DJ Smooth B - Fridays in July from 6:00pm to 9:00pm at Nomans.

  • Gossip, Ghosts, and Downright Scandal Walking Tours - Fridays in July from 7:00pm to 8:15pm - Memorial Wharf 50 Dock Street Edgartown - A guided walking tour with a lighthearted look at Edgartow's history.  You will see elegant houses and historic sites, hear local myths and what really happen and maybe even a few well-behaved ghosts.

  • Vineyard Haven Band Summer Concerts at Ocean Park   Sundays in July at 7:30pm -    join the Vineyard Haven Band for its much-loved tradition of outdoor summer concerts! All are free and open to the public. Established in 1868, the Vineyard Haven Band is the oldest continuous, nonprofit cultural organization on Martha's Vineyard. The band carries on the 19th-century "band in the park" tradition with a repertory of American classic
  • Exhibit: Eisenstaedt’s Martha’s Vineyard - Daily in July from 10:00am to 5:00pm at the Martha's Vineyard Museum - One of the most respected photojournalists of the 20th century, Alfred Eisenstaedt (1898-1995) captured countless iconic images, from a sailor kissing a nurse in Times Square to portraits of kings, dictators, and movie stars. His decades-long career with Life magazine took him all over the world, but he found time to return to the Island each summer for more than 50 years. This exhibition shares the story of Eisenstaedt’s Martha’s Vineyard through his own words, along with photographs and objects in the Museum’s collection.
