Summer is right around the corner on Martha’s Vineyard, and we’re kicking it off with a month full of exciting events across the island. Lace up your sneakers for a cross-island hike, or dive into the fun with celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of Jaws. - An Iliad - Sunday, June 1st at 2:00pm - An Iliad is a modern, solo retelling of Homer’s epic that explores the timeless toll of war. Through the eyes of a weary poet, ancient battles and modern conflicts collide in a raw, urgent meditation on rage, loss, and humanity’s enduring struggles.
- The Remarkable History of Penikese Island - Tuesday, June 3rd at 6pm - Penikese Island, a 75-acre wildlife sanctuary at the southwest end of the Elizabeth Island chain, has played many roles throughout its rich history. Once home to a natural history summer school and later a leper colony, it now serves as a vital refuge for endangered seabirds. For 150 years, botanical surveys have been conducted on the island, documenting the island’s ecological changes. Today, the Penikese Island School uses this living classroom to inspire environmental literacy and stewardship. In this presentation by Kimberly Ulmer, we invite you to explore the island’s remarkable legacy and ongoing contributions to conservation and science education. This event will be held at the Katharine Cornell Theatre at 51 Spring Street in Vineyard Haven (above the Tisbury Town Hall). Free and open to the public. No registration required.
- Make Your Own Herbarium Specimen -Wednesday, June 4th from 10:00am to 12:00pm - Join PHA Curator/Assistant Director Emily Ellingson for a hands-on journey exploring the science and art of creating herbarium specimens. In addition to managing the living collection, Emily oversees PHA’s herbarium, a documented collection of dried plants that are used for scientific study, and are often viewed as works of art. In this two-session workshop, participants will first explore PHA’s living collection and learn how to document, collect, press, and dry plant specimens. Participants will return to the Arboretum a week later and learn the art of labeling and gluing their own specimens to archival paper. Participants will take home up to three herbarium specimens.
- First Friday Vineyard Haven - Friday, June 6th at 4:00pm - First Friday is a free community-inspired outdoor event in Vineyard Haven, Martha's Vineyard. Started in 2016 and based on the nation-wide First Friday art walks, we celebrate the local art and culture of our island each first Friday of the month June through October.
- Cross-Island Hike - Saturday, June 7th at 8:15am - This year’s hike begins at Chilmark Pond Preserve and concludes 18.2 miles to the northeast at the Tisbury portion of Eastville Point Beach. The hike starts at 8:15 AM and finishes at 3:20 PM. Participants should use the checkpoints on the 2025 XIH map to determine which part(s) of this year’s hike best suits their schedules, interests, and physical capabilities.
- Best of the Vineyard - Wednesday, June 11th from 5:00pm to 7:30pm - Come celebrate local businesses with Martha's Vineyard Magazine's Best of the Vineyard awards celebration. Awards, food, drinks, and music. It's the season's opening party!
- Archaeology I.D. Day - Saturday, June 14th from 12:30pm to 2:30pm - On Saturday, June 14, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m., the West Tisbury Library will host its sixth annual Archaeology I.D. Day. All are invited! Please bring any artifacts you may have discovered for expert identification and discussion. The archaeologists present will be happy to answer any questions about the archaeology of Martha’s Vineyard and about New England in general. There will also be informative displays to be viewed. On hand for the event will be archaeologists Dr. Jim Richardson, Richard Burt, Duncan Caldwell, and Bill Moody. This event is free and open to the public.

- Edible Landscaping Workshop with IGI and the Agricultural Society - Saturday, June 14th from 1:00pm to 3:00pm - Learn about the best native and perennial edible plants for the Northeast, and how to utilize them to cultivate beautiful, abundant, and resilient landscapes! Do you have perennial herbs, greens, or berries that have spread too far, reseeded, or need dividing? Live pruning’s from fruiting shrubs that could be rooted? Bring your extra edible perennials to share and trade!
- Screening for National Geographic and Amblin Documentaries' Jaws @ 50: The Definitive Inside Story - Friday, June 20th from 4:30pm to 6:00pm - National Geographic and Amblin Documentaries, in conjunction with the Martha’s Vineyard Chamber of Commerce and Circuit Arts, is thrilled to present the premiere of Jaws @ 50: The Definitive Inside Story. The authorized, upcoming documentary uncovers the behind-the-scenes stories of the bestselling novel and Steven Spielberg’s legendary blockbuster film along with diving into our enduring fascination with sharks.
- Jaws 50th Anniversary Escape Room Social Event - Thursday - Sunday June 19-22 from 8am to 11pm - Celebrate Jaws 50th anniversary with this uniquely Martha's Vineyard experience. Jaws was filmed on Martha's Vineyard in 1974. This escape room takes place inside a replica of the Orca that Brody, Quint, and Hooper used to hunt Jaws. In this game you join their crew and have to solve clues which tie in the Jaws and Martha's Vineyard themes. Your goal is to save the town of Amity by defeating Jaws within 45 minutes. This is a social event so you are likely to play with other Jaws fans. If you do want a private room instead of potentially playing with others you can book it for at least seven people. - JAWS themed Glass Blowing Demonstration - Saturday, June 21st from 10:00am to 4:00pm - Visiting Artist Bryan Randa will work with the Martha's Vineyard Glassworks team to create a blown glass Great White Shark in honor of Jaw's 50th anniversary.
- JAWS in Concert - Saturday, June 21st from 6:00pm to 11:00pm - Celebrate JAWS in the most fitting of locations — the original Amity Island shooting location, Martha’s Vineyard. Fans of the movie (and who isn’t?) are invited for an unforgettable experience on June 21 at Jaws in Concert presented by the Martha’s Vineyard Chamber of Commerce, as part of the Alamo Drafthouse Rolling Roadshow tour. - Jaws 50th The Reunion - Sunday, June 22nd from 11am to 4:00pm - The Reunion is an all-day outdoor festival to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the movie Jaws. It will bring together Jaws enthusiasts, Island residents who participated in the movie, and visitors for a day filled with nostalgia, entertainment, crafts and merchandise, and food and drink.

- Make A Great White Shark - Saturday, June 28th from 2:00pm to 3:00pm - Celebrating the anniversary of the movie, Jaws, let's make an eight foot great white shark with artist, DiVitto Kelly. - Musical Mondays with Jodie Treloar Sampson - Monday, June 30th from 6:30pm to 8:00pm - Join us this summer for Musical Mondays, featuring musical performances on our outdoor stage under the trees! Enjoy music on our lawn while supporting musical artists and our nonprofit art center. Tickets are $20 per person with 50% of proceeds from each performance going to the musicians. ?Tickets for each week's performance will go on sale to the public at 12 p.m. (noon) a week prior.
- Chilmark Flea Market - Wednesday & Saturdays beginning June 25th from 9:00am to 2:00pm - The oldest outdoor flea market venue on the Island! The "Flea" has evolved into a market like no other. - Kismet Outfitters Group Fly Casting Lesson - Wednesdays in June from 3:00pm to 4:00pm - Capt. Abbie Schuster, Kismet Outfitters owner, and head fly fishing guide, will be leading weekly fly fishing casting classes at the Edgartown Lighthouse beginning Wednesday, May 7. All equipment is provided and no experience is necessary. This is the perfect opportunity to learn the art of fly casting with a certified casting instructor.
- Morning Pages Mornings with Kate Feiffer - Thursdays in June from 8:00am to 9:00am - Thursday, June 5, at 8 a.m., start the day with morning pages and writing prompts with Morning Pages author Kate Feiffer. - Grace Church Lobster Rolls - Fridays in June from 3:00pm to 6:00pm - Come join us for a Friday night fundraiser tradition at Grace Church! Lobster is sold in 8 or 4 oz. containers with chips and rolls on the side. We also offer chowder, slices of pie, and hot dogs.
