The best of June on the Vineyard

June has arrived and the island is ready for you! It’s finally time to get outside and enjoy all the Vineyard has to offer. Baseball, Fishing, Live Music and more. Here are our favorite things to do on Martha’s Vineyard this June!

Stories, Songs, & Sea Chanties of Nantucket Sound - Thursday, June 3rd from 6:00pm to 7:00pm. Longtime Martha's Vineyard resident Mark Alan Lovewell is a folksinger, writer and storyteller who has performed from coast to coast. He sings sea chanties, with four CDs produced featuring songs and stories tied to his love of the sea. He is a descendant of a New England whaling family, a fisherman, conservationist and advocate for all things nautical, from preserving our maritime heritage to caring for our waterfront communities. For this live webinar hosted by Save Our Sound and its monthly ACONS (A Celebration of Nantucket Sound) educational series, Mr. Lovewell will be sharing his love of Nantucket Sound through story and song. A live Q&A will follow.

West Tisbury Farmers’ Market - Starting Saturday June 12th from 9:00am to 12:00pm. Outdoor farmers market features locally grown produce and meat and locally made products. The market is dedicated to bringing local agricultural products to the people both living on and visiting the Island. The market was started in 1974 by a group of Island growers. That first year they had about a dozen farmers selling their produce.

Fly Rod Striped Bass Catch & Release Tournament - Saturday, June 12 from 7:00pm to 2:00am. This one-night team shore fly-fishing contest is built on fun and camaraderie. Everyone who joins and is present at the Sunday morning breakfast and awards ceremony held at the Rod and Gun club has an opportunity to win one of many great prizes generous supporters contribute each year. Team members must each fill a fish quota. Plaques are awarded in three categories: Roberto Germani Trophy to the team that reaches its fish quota with the earliest time; Arnold Spofford Trophy in which each member fishes with only one fly; Sonny and Joey Beaulieu Trophy for the largest striped bass released.

Vineyard Artisans Summer Festival - Sunday, June 13, 20 & 27 from 10:00am to 2:00pm. A Vineyard summer tradition and the only weekly juried art show where the public can meet over 70 artisans and buy directly from them. Many demonstrations, weaving, fine furniture, pottery, stained glass, oil paintings, pastels, mixed media, sculpture, wampum jewelry, quilts, clothing, sea glass windows, handmade books and much more.

Blooming Art - Friday - Sunday, June 18th-June20th from 10:00am to 6:00pm (Sunday 10-3). This celebration of fine art and floral design is the Garden Club’s major fundraiser of the year and is a favorite annual summer event for most residents and visitors to the Vineyard each June. This year we will be exhibiting the work of 34 Vineyard artists and each will be paired with a floral design that was inspired by that work and created by one or more of our Garden Club members. All artwork will be for sale with a percentage going to the Club. There will be a limit of 10 visitors at a time in the Old Mill and, of course, masks and social distancing will be required.

MV Sharks Baseball - Home games beginning June 8th @ 6:30pm - Check the schedule for the summer season. Baseball is back! Enjoy the Island's own collegiate summer baseball team as they take on the Oceanstate Waves.

FILMUSIC Festival – Exploring Music and Culture through Film - June 24th-27th. The MV Film Society presents feature films and musical performances that celebrate the convergence of music, culture and film.

Goat Yoga - Tuesdays and Thursdays in June from 5:30pm to 6:30pm. Native Earth Teaching Farm has been raising and breeding Pygmy goats since 1999. We decided to combine the healing of yoga with the fun of pygmy goats. Must be 13 years or older. Registration required by emailing goatyogamv@gmail.com

Kayak Quest at Felix Neck - Mondays - Fridays at 9:00am. Enjoy Sengekontacket Pond at your own pace on this self-guided tour. Rhyming quest clues (think: treasure hunt) will help you uncover the story of the Pond's people, places and wildlife.

Sundays in the Park Concert Series - Sundays in June from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Featuring the Black Eyed Susans, Don Groover & Friends and more bands to be announced. Masks required.
