Saturday, May 1st from 10:00am - 11:00am - Family Arbor Day Activity. Celebrate Arbor Day at Polly Hill Arboretum with a storytime followed by a special trees walk with a hands-on activity. All ages are welcome. Each family will receive a free tree seedling. Space is limited to help prevent the spread of Covid-19, and allow for social distancing. Registration is required.

 

Saturdays in May from 10:30am - 12:00pm - Waking Up the Garden. Join the FARM Institute and Slough Farm weekly for five weeks this spring to “wake up” the Friendship Garden. Garden educator and Friendship Garden founder Melinda Rabbitt DeFeo (she/her) will lead participants through the intricacies of preparing a growing space for a productive spring and summer. Perfect for seasoned home farmers and folks looking to break fresh ground, this series will cover early season crops, basic soil and compost science, bed building and design, roots, shoots, and warm weather crops. Due to Covid restrictions, space is limited and pre-registration is required. This is a hands-on series, be prepared to get dirty. Masks are mandatory at this event. Come for one, or sign up for all five.

 

Friday, May 7th through Sunday, May 8th - Pink & Green Weekend. Spring is just around the corner, and we cannot wait. To make up for last year, we're treating Pink & Green Weekend as the official kick-off to the season. So save the date and begin thinking of how you'd like to participate. Here are some things to look forward to:

Friday, May 7th through Sunday, May 9th from 4:00pm - 9:00pm - Spectrum Film Festival. The festival, which focuses on lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning and intersex people and their stories, is showing six films either online or in-person from May 7 through May 9.

Friday and Saturday May 7th & 8th - 7:30pm & 4:00pm - Minnesingers Spring Concert. The Minnesingers will perform their annual Mother’s Day weekend show at the Tabernacle this year. Because this is a large outdoor space we are able to perform here properly distanced without masks. We will have limited availability for tickets and will require social distancing and masks among audience members.

Sunday, May 9th from 12:00pm - 1:30pm or 2:00pm - 3:30pm - Mother’s Day at the Light. Treat the mother(s) in your life to a Sunday afternoon refuge safari to the remote Cape Pogue Light. We’ll traverse through the dunes amongst the plethora of soon-to-be nesting shorebirds as they find their mates and begin their own journey into motherhood. Registration required for program participation. Multi-family groups and individuals welcome. Masks must be worn at all times. Program starts at Mytoi Gatehouse (off Dike Road). There is no shuttle from Chappy Point.

Sunday, May 16th from 10:00am - 1:00pm - Farm Animal Meet & Greet. Join us for a Farm Animal Meet & Greet to benefit MV 4H Programming. Reserve your space today for this fun fuzzy fundraiser.

Starting Fridays, May 21st from 4:00pm - 7:00pm - Grace Church Lobster Rolls. Best of the Vineyard lobster rolls for sale. Our usual menu will include lobster containers with rolls on the side, chowder, hot dogs and an assortment of pies. Takeout and curbside pickup only this summer. You must order ahead. You will be able to call in your order on Thursdays, and the Grace Church Lobster Roll app will be live, where you can order online from your cell phone and tell us when you'd like to pick up your order.

Saturday, May 22nd from 10:00am - 12:00pm -  Seedling Swap & Giveaway. The MV Community Seed Library Group will be hosting a Seedling Swap & Giveaway on the West Tisbury Library porch (weather permitting). Bring heirloom vegetable, flower and fruit seedlings or cuttings to swap and share. If you don’t have plants to swap, no problem. There will be a selection of locally grown seedlings to take home. Please remember to save your seeds after the growing season and “return” them to the seed library. Rain date: Saturday, May 29. Check the website for updates. There is no sign up required to attend. Please wear a mask and observe social distancing.

Starting Sunday, May 30th - Music returns to Oak Bluffs! Sundays in the Park - Featuring the Black Eyed Susans, Don Groover & Friends and more bands to be announced. Masks required.

Sunday, May 30th from 10:00am - 2:00pm - Oak Bluffs Open Market. Experience this super combination of farmers market, artisan fair, vintage flea market and body, mind, spirit fair – all together at one convenient location. This ever-changing variety of locally grown produce, specialty foods, flowers, indie designers, artisans and vintage dealers has something for everyone.
