Spring has officially arrived on the island, bringing the perfect opportunity to step outside and enjoy all that Martha’s Vineyard has to offer. It’s time to dig into garden projects, comb the beaches for treasures left by winter storms, explore fresh works from local artists, and so much more. April is the perfect month to visit—here are some of our favorite things to do this season.
- Growing Carrots with Ethan Buchanan-Valenti - Tuesday, April 1st from 5:30pm–7:00pm at the Ag Hall - This workshop will start with an overview on GROWING, looking at different methods and practices, with a focus on growing regeneratively. We'll then talk about carrot specifics and move into a discussion on varieties and types of carrots. We'll discuss tips, tricks, and challenges for the field or garden: everything from sowing and growing to harvesting, serving, and storing. An open Q&A will conclude the class.
- Martha's Vineyard Cookbook Demo - Saturday, April 5th from 10am to 11am - Join us to celebrate the release of The Martha’s Vineyard Cookbook: 100 Recipes from the Island’s Restaurants, Farmers, Fishermen & Food Artisans by Julia Blanter! We’ll have a recipe demo from the cookbook with Jeisook Thayer of MV Kimchee, where you’ll learn to make kimchi from scratch (vegan and alpha-gal friendly) and put the finishing touches on your own jar of kimchi to take home! Each participant will also receive a copy of the book included in the ticket price.
- 2nd Annual Homesteader Conference - Sunday, April 6th 9:30am to 3pm - Join us at the Ag Hall on Sunday, April 6 from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for our second annual Homesteader Conference! Each attendee will have the chance to attend our keynote lecture and two workshops focused on homesteader skills. Lunch will also be provided.
- Backyard Garden Planning Workshop - Tuesday, April 8th from 5:30pm–7:00pm at the Ag Hall - Anna Swanson will lead this workshop on backyard garden planning. Anna will describe ways to best utilize a small space based on sunlight, nutrient needs, crop rotation, and more. The class will then have a chance to plan their own garden plots and ask questions. Whether you are a long-time gardener trying to optimize your garden this season or a first-time grower unsure where to start, this workshop is for you!
- Wicked Good Musical Revue - April 11th & 12th at 7pm & April 13th at 2pm - Broadway Unbounded with performers David Behnke, Molly Conole, Leslie Guzman, Katherine Reid and Ken Romero, with special guest, Aiden Weiland. Accompanied by musicians Peter Boak, Molly Sturges and Brian Weiland. Musical director: David Behnke.
- Growing Greens with Rosemary Confalone - Tuesday, April 15th from 5:30pm–7:00pm at the Ag Hall - Learn how to grow salad greens at home! In this workshop, Rosemary Confalone will cover which types of greens are easiest to grow, how to make your own salad mix, and the basics of succession planting so you can harvest all season long. This is a great workshop for backyard growers who want to save money and take their growing to the next level.
- Misty Meadows Spring Egg Hunt - Saturday, April 19th from 10am to 12pm - Spring is fast approaching, and that means Misty Meadow's Spring Egg Hunt! Join in on the festive fun Saturday, April 19, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.. Come to the farm for an exciting morning with the herd! Participate in the Egg Hunt, get your face painted, meet the horses, and enjoy music, games, and more! Egg hunt bags are $5, all ages welcome!
- Pasta Class with Katie Leaird - Saturday, April 19th from 11:00am to 12:00pm - Join us as Katie Leaird of Martha's Vineyard Pasta shows you how to make your own pasta!
- 3rd Annual Earth Day Festival - April 19th from 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm - The Martha’s Vineyard Museum is proud to announce the return of the Earth Day Festival! This annual celebration brings together the many Island organizations dedicated to preserving, protecting, and sustaining Martha’s Vineyard’s waters, natural spaces, and biodiversity. Join us on Saturday, April 19 from 12-3 PM for a day of learning, connection, and community action. Meet with staff and volunteers from over ten participating organizations, explore their important work, and discover ways to get involved.
- Arbor Day Event 2025 - Friday, April 25th from 1:00pm to 2:30pm - Join us for a celebration of trees at the Polly Hill Arboretum in honor of Arbor Day. We will start with a tour of some notable trees in our collection, followed by a tree planting demonstration. Please meet at the visitor center. Registration is not required.
- Visible Mending Workshop - Monday, April 28th from 5:30pm–7:30pm at the Ag Hall - Led by Dalila Bennett of Fire Cat Farm. Are your Carhartt's looking a little worse for wear? Are your sweaters full of holes? Bring all your old and worn-down clothes to the Ag Hall and we’ll learn to mend them together!
- Growing Herbs and Edible Flowers with Rosemary Confalone - Tuesday, April 29th from 5:30pm–7:00pm at the Ag Hall - Come learn about growing your own culinary herbs. Rosemary Confalone will talk about common (and uncommon) kitchen herbs, tips and tricks for starting them from seed, and succession planting for enjoying homegrown herbs all season long. We will also talk about keeping perennial herb plantings healthy, and adding edible flowers to your herb garden.
- Friday Warm Up at Martha's Vineyard Museum - Fridays in April from 4:00pm to 8:00pm - Come for a hot beverage on your way home from work or after-school activities with family, friends, or a date. Get the Scrabble games going, play cards and other games, opt into crafting something that will absorb all your stress, chat over a bite and a beverage in a space that offers a cozy alternative to the bar scene.
- Sunday B-Side Brunch at Martha's Vineyard Museum - Sundays in April from 11:00am to 2:00pm - Sunday B Side Brunch happens every Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the First Light Café, featuring delicious food and non-alcoholic beverages. Soak in the friendly atmosphere and stunning views while enjoying a classic, soulful vinyl DJ set by Vincent Patricola, with occasional special guests.
