- Locally Grown and Delicious with Casey Mazar-Kelley - Saturday, March 4th at 5:30pm to 7:00pm - Think seasonal cooking is best left to the months of July and August? Think again! Join Casey Mazar-Kelley in this monthly class on how to make comforting, delicious and, yes, local meals in January, February, and March! Every month we will base our recipes on what we pick up from Island Grown Initiative’s CSA and what is available at other Island farms. Classes are hands-on and participants will prepare a meal together that will then be shared around the table at the end of the class. Pre-registration required.

- Fermentation 101: Sauerkraut - Saturday, March 4th at 10:00am to 11:30am - Winter is the perfect time to learn a new skill! Join island fermenters in these fermentation workshops. We’ll discuss vegetable fermentation in general and together each participant will prepare a half-gallon mason jar of sauerkraut to take home with them. Class fee covers all the supplies including the airlock system needed for the fermentation to safely happen in your home. - Music Street Concert: Jubilation: Unique Voices - Saturday, March 4th at 4:00pm to 5:00pm - On Saturday, March 4 at 4 p.m., the West Tisbury Library will host a live, in-person concert featuring Music Street musicians. This concert will feature pianist Diane Katzenberg Braun, cellist Alan Toda-Ambaras and violinist Sophia Szokolay. Music Street’s March 2023 concert highlights unique compositions with a flair for jubilant intensity, both introverted and exciting. Boston’s New England Conservatory musicians come together for solos, duos and trios in a joyous program which includes esteemed past and present female composers along with composers having Russian and Ukrainian roots.

- Science on Screen: Ex Machina with Guests Speaker Yogesh Girdhar - Wednesday, March 8th at 7:30pm - Alex Garland, writer of 28 Days Later and Sunshine, makes his directorial debut with the stylish and cerebral thriller, Ex Machina. Caleb Smith (Domhnall Gleeson), a programmer at an internet-search giant, wins a competition to spend a week at the private mountain estate of the company’s brilliant and reclusive CEO, Nathan Bateman (Oscar Isaac). Upon his arrival, Caleb learns that Nathan has chosen him to be the human component in a Turing Test—charging him with evaluating the capabilities, and ultimately the consciousness, of Nathan’s latest experiment in artificial intelligence. That experiment is Ava (Alicia Vikander), a breathtaking A.I. whose emotional intelligence proves more sophisticated––and more deceptive––than the two men could have imagined. Prior to the film, WHOI Computer Scientist Yogesh Girdhar will give a presentation entitled “Enabling Ecologically Curious Robots for Monitoring Coral Reefs.” This is a free event but please request your seat in advance.

- Discussion: Hydrangeas: Which One is Right for Me? - Tuesday, March 21 at 1:00pm to 3:00am -This program focuses on the key points that gardeners should consider before they invest in a hydrangea. With over 600 cultivars to select from, it’s easy to select a plant based on some attributes only to find that it will definitely not be the “right plant in the right place.” The seven species are identified, examples of each are provided, and their best use in the landscape. BIO: Kathie is a Senior Principal Master Gardener, the past education coordinator and current master gardener training coordinator for the MMGA. She is a retired educator with over 40 years teaching and administering in K-12. She currently does education policy research and writing for various state and national education organizations. - Fly Tying - Tuesdays in March from 7:00pm to 9:oopm - Learn the techniques needed to turn feathers and tinsel into an irresistible combination from some of the Island's most experienced fly rod anglers. The weekly sessions organized by renowned Island fly fisherman Cooper (Coop) Gilkes provide a welcome off-season refuge for becalmed anglers waiting for spring. Participants of all skill levels follow the lead of one tier who provides instruction about how he or she ties a specific fly (See Vineyard Gazette, March 5, 2018, “Waiting for the First Cast, Flyfishermen Hone Their Craft”).
